Deal toys for every kind of deal

The piece changes with the deal. Here is what usually goes on it, and who orders it.

  • Acquisitions, mergers and sales

The most common deal toy. The face carries the buyer's and the seller's logos, the advisor's line, the closing month and, if you want it shown, the amount or the project code name. Ordered by the acquirer's corporate development team, the investment bankers who advised either side or the law firm that closed it, usually one piece for each person on the deal team.

  • Debt and financing closings

Bond offerings, revolving credit facilities, asset-backed and lease financings, term loans. The piece names the borrower, the lenders or underwriters, the size of the facility and the closing date, in the layout of a tombstone advertisement. Ordered by the arranger, the lender or the borrower's finance team.

  • Private equity, venture and fund closes

Platform acquisitions, add-ons, exits and fund closings. Sponsors often order one piece per portfolio company or per investor, with the fund's logo beside the company's. We make versions of one design with different names or share counts on each piece.

  • Real estate

Property sales, developments, joint ventures, leases and construction loans. A skyline or a rendering of the building prints well in color on crystal or acrylic, and the base can carry the address and the figure.

  • Equity raises, IPOs and offerings

A listing or a placement: the ticker and the exchange, the offering size and the pricing date, with one piece for each investor or banker when you want names on them.

  • Milestones that are not deals

Legal wins and settlements, FDA approvals, board service, retirements, certifications and project completions use the same formats with your wording.

See the priced formats

Can we order just one deal toy?

Yes. Award Maven makes single deal toys and has no minimum order. One piece costs the listed one-piece price; larger runs cost less each.

How fast can we see a mock-up and a price?

Within 24 to 48 hours of receiving your logos and the deal text. You can change anything on the mock-up before you approve it.

How long does production take, and can you rush it?

Standard production for Award Maven deal toys is 5 to 10 business days after you approve the proof. Rush is available on most pieces: tell us the in-hands date and we confirm what is possible before you order.

What is a deal toy, and what else is it called?

A deal toy is a small commemorative piece, usually crystal or acrylic (Lucite), made to mark a closed transaction: an acquisition, a merger, a financing, a fund close or a real estate deal. It is also called a financial tombstone or deal tombstone, after the tombstone advertisements that announced offerings in the financial press, and a deal Lucite, deal cube or deal gift.

More questions (8)

What goes on a deal toy?

The logos of the parties, the deal name or code name, the role of the firm giving it ("acted as exclusive financial advisor to"), the closing month and year, and often the amount. A second face or the base can carry each recipient's name.

Who gets a deal toy?

The deal team, the client's executives, and the advisers, lenders and lawyers who worked on the closing. Usually one per person; sponsors sometimes order one per investor or per portfolio company.

Can you embed a document or an object inside?

Yes. Award Maven embeds documents (a 10-K page, a filing, a certificate), currency, vials, chips, SIM cards and small products in clear Lucite. Send a photo or a description and we confirm it before you order.

Can you copy a past piece or match our previous vendor's design?

Yes. Send a photo or the file and we reproduce it, or improve it. Repeat orders keep the same layout with the new deal's details.

Which should we choose: acrylic, Lucite or crystal?

Acrylic (Lucite is a brand name for it) is light, clear and prints in full color; it is the usual choice for tombstones and embedments. Optical crystal is heavier and glass-clear, engraved or color-printed, for a premium single piece. Say nothing and Award Maven proposes the material with the mock-up.

Do you keep unannounced deals confidential?

Yes. Nothing we make for you is shown or named without your written permission. When you ask, we hold your artwork until the announcement date.

What do we need to send you?

Your logos (vector if you have them; a PNG works to start), the wording for the face, how many pieces and the date you need them in hand. If the wording is not settled, send the deal and we draft it on the mock-up.

Where do you ship deal toys?

Across the United States and internationally, to one address or to each recipient.

It goes to the top of your quote request.

What a deal toy is

Bankers began giving Lucite pieces to deal teams in the 1970s, modelled on the tombstone advertisements that announced offerings in the financial press. The name "financial tombstone" stuck, and "deal toy" followed. The piece carries the logos of the parties, the deal line, the date and often the amount, and it stays on a desk long after the closing.

Today they mark acquisitions, financings, fund closes, real estate deals and company milestones, and they are ordered as often by a corporate development team or a sponsor as by a bank. For a longer answer, read what deal toys cost and how to choose one; to see pieces with prices, browse the deal toy catalog.
